In 2004, the last existing Magikist sign formerly located on the Kennedy Expressway at Montrose Avenue was torn down just two weeks shy of being named on a list of seven most-endangered local landmarks. For generations of folks who drove in from the suburbs, the Magikist lips were the sign to wake up as the excitement of downtown Chicago was drawing near. Let’s re-erect that warm welcome, wear it with respect and in the words of Wesley Willis, “rock out like a Magikist” because Chicago has arrived.

On March 14, 2000, just before Indiana was to begin play in the NCAA tournament, the CNN/SI network ran a piece on Knight in which former player Neil Reed claimed he was choked by Knight in a 1997 practice. Knight denied the claims in the story. On April 11, 2000, CNN Sports Illustrated aired a tape of an IU practice from 1997 that showed Knight with his hand around the neck of Neil Reed. Lesson learned: Do not fucking step to this man – he will bury you.
